What had happened?
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had said that he had ordered the seizure of the buffer zone established in the Golan Heights according to the ceasefire agreement signed with Syria in 1974, following HTS’s capture of Damascus and the overthrow of the Bashar Assad regime. Israel had captured and annexed a part of the Golan Heights in the 1967 war. The international community, excluding the US, views it as illegally occupied Syrian territory.
